Trend Spotting: Paris Design Week 2025
Paris transforms into a hub of creativity each January with the highly anticipated design events Maison & Objet and Paris Déco Off. Members of our team traveled to France to scout the latest releases and gather inspiration for the year ahead. Come along with us as we reflect on the top trends we noticed this year.
Maximalism
Paris Design Week marked a noticeable departure from the restrained minimalism that has defined interiors in recent years. Instead, a wave of Maximalism swept through the exhibitions, offering a rich and layered perspective on contemporary design. Inspired by the grandeur of the Musée d’Orsay’s architecture, the bold, unapologetic patterns in Dolce & Gabbana’s Du Coeur À La Main exhibit, and the intricate craftsmanship showcased in the latest collections from Eichholtz, Groupe Gohard, and Polspotten, the movement is a celebration of abundance.
While minimalism has long placed emphasis on subtle textures and pared-back materiality, this new chapter embraces the harmonious meld of color, pattern, and texture. It’s a return to interiors that tell a story, where each element invites intrigue and joy. For those seeking to inject more personality and vibrancy into their spaces, this trend signals the perfect opportunity to experiment boldly and embrace the art of layering.
Wordly Influence
For those drawn to a quieter aesthetic, rest assured—organic modern with worldly influence remains a cornerstone of contemporary design. At Paris Design Week, nature-inspired works took center stage, celebrating organic forms and materials while paying homage to cultural craftsmanship from Africa to Asia. The focus on high-quality, sustainable resources and handmade textiles lent an air of authenticity and timelessness to the trend.
Soft, earthy palettes of warm beiges, light greens, and gentle browns dominated the collections of Dômo Deco, Honoré Deco, Hydile, Pierre Frey, Schumacher, and Yao Silk. These tones, paired with delicate woven textiles and sculptural furniture, exemplify a thoughtful approach to design that is both understated and elegant. It’s a reminder that simplicity, when executed with care and precision, can be just as impactful as bold maximalism.
Eclectic Whimsy
Eclectic whimsy brought an infectious levity and playfulness to Paris Design Week, blending vintage charm with an upbeat, modern twist. Across textiles, furniture, lighting, and even tablescapes, we saw a joyful embrace of bright colors, curvaceous forms, and layered antique patterns. Brands like Galerie Negropontes, Jim Thompson, Kesra 88, Office Objets, Maya Luxury, Laetitia Rouget, Po Paris, and Royère showcased pieces that effortlessly transported viewers to another era while keeping the aesthetic refreshingly contemporary.
Cheerful hues of blue, pink, yellow, and red dominated the palette, signaling a collective desire for interiors that spark joy. Paired with more restrained materials like iron, porcelain, and natural wood, these playful elements struck a harmonious balance between whimsy and refinement. The rise of imaginative tablescapes was particularly notable, as intricate settings became the perfect canvas for this travel-inspired narrative. It’s a trend that invites us to explore the world through design, celebrating the beauty of unexpected pairings and nostalgic influences.
