Case Study of Crab Creek
Crab Creek stands as a deeply personal project for our founder, Andrew Sheinman—a home he first designed and built for his family in the mid-90s, drawing inspiration from some of the Greek Revival architecture found on Shelter Island and in Sag Harbor.
Several years ago, when a burst pipe flooded the home devastating the interior, the loss became an unexpected opportunity. Andrew embarked on a complete renovation, reimagining the residence with the insight and inspiration he has gathered over decades of design experience. This revitalization allowed him to refine every detail, integrate his evolving aesthetic vision, and create a setting for the art, objects, and furnishings that have become part of his journey.
FAMILY Room
Elevated shiplap wraps the walls of this chic coastal family room. The original sofa and lounge chair have been thoughtfully retained, their timeless design anchored by an intricately woven sisal rug from Beauvais Carpets. At the heart of the space, a vibrant Sean Gerstley coffee table serves as a striking focal point, blending artistry with functionality.
Dining Room
This mid-century modern space is centered around a vintage Charles Eames for Herman Miller dining table set with the iconic vintage Eames DCM chairs in shades of red, olive, and slate. Above, a sculptural light fixture by Castor Design introduces a playful, bubbly texture that brings both dimension and levity to the space. Glass doors open to the porch, bathing the room in natural light, while pocket doors between adjacent rooms provide the flexibility to transition between openness and intimacy seamlessly.
Kitchen
The kitchen effortlessly blends industrial influences with rustic warmth, achieving both practicality and style. The center island, reimagined in natural stone instead of the original butcher’s block, brings a sophisticated touch while simplifying upkeep. Handmade tiles along the walls, deliver a clean, classic look that underscores the space’s enduring versatility.
Primary Bathroom
Paneled walls painted in a semi-gloss finish brighten the room, reflecting sunlight across the A-frame ceiling. A freestanding tub becomes the centerpiece, set atop a marble slab that carries through to the stonework in the shower for a seamless, elegant look. The brick mantle juxtaposed against the marble creates a dynamic interplay of rustic and refined elements. Cleverly integrated storage keeps essentials neatly out of sight, enhancing the room’s clean, tranquil appeal.
Primary Bedroom
The primary bedroom exudes quiet elegance, combining clean design with understated nautical influences. The soft white shiplap walls create a gentle backdrop, while the custom striped linen bed commands attention as the centerpiece. A woven sisal rug from Lawrence of La Brea introduces natural warmth, connecting the space to the home’s overall aesthetic. For a touch of contrast, a slick oversized metal table displays a curated selection of books and a striking wooden bust, balancing artistry with simplicity.
Guest Bedroom
The guest bedroom, with its soft green walls, invites you in with unmatched charm. A built-in wardrobe makes good use of the small space and adds a custom, polished touch to the room. The windows, with custom chik bamboo shade by Joss Graham, provide a subtle glow of light and a view of the garden beyond.
Guest Bath
The secondary bathroom has timeless appeal with its use of white subway tiles and marble finishes. The built-in tub is complemented by a niche in the marble wall providing functionality and a refined look. The custom vanity, designed by Pembrooke & Ives, features fluted paneling and leather drawer pulls, topped with a marble countertop.
